La Salle College of the Arts

Nice new home of La Salle College at One McNally Road. Beautiful and unique architectural designs of straight yet slated lines towering over. Nice tall look through glasses and the fun see through floor tiles into classrooms. (Spin to the bottom of the pano to see into the classroom).

This pano is special as I met a fellow “pano-grapher” from Australia! A cool D200 setup with the 360 Precision pano head. The most expensive pano head money can buy! We had a great chat and exchanged contacts. Hope to see his work soon! Keep in touch Thomas!

Another fellow panographer I keep in contact quite a bit is Pete. Whose site is @ http://www.peterloud.co.uk Go straight to his pano pages with the links below. Enjoy his panos of beautiful panos of churches.

Fort Canning

360_rafflesterrace_final_tiny.jpg

“Established way back in 1859 as an arms store, barracks and hospital, Fort Canning contains precious memorials of Singapore’s early history dating back to the 14th century and Sir Stamford Raffles’ personal bungalow. Look out also for the Spice Garden, a small replica of the original 19-hectare tract Raffles established in 1822 as the first experimental and botanical garden in Singapore.” - Words from here.

Singapore National Day 2007

etegration | August 10, 2007 | 2:09 am

360_ndp07_final_tiny.jpg

Yet another fun year with a new venue and to me, a even bigger crowd at the open space near One Raffles Quay overlooking the whole area where the actual celebration is held and a great place for fireworks shooting! The fireworks shoot can be found here. A pano of the open area is above. Taken at 4.42pm and later at 6pm, this place was packed to the brim!

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

Maitreya Hall (Left)

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva Hall

I was lucky as a small ceremony was going on when I reached this hall.

Back of the Temple.

Maitreya Hall (Center)
360_mainhallcenter_final_tiny.jpg

There has been so much discussion and criticism of the actual authenticity of the tooth relic and the housing it sits in, a full 420kg of gold casing. No one is certain what they are actually praying to, how true or not the tooth relic is, the temple very beautiful place to visit with it’s great architectural designs. I was there to admire and take in all the sights and sound more than to pray with a friend who’s a very devoted Buddhist whom is also there to take photos and nothing else. No matter if it’s true or not, if it’s not doing bad or harm to anyone, let’s just enjoy.http://www.btrts.org.sg/

8mm Pelang

etegration | | 3:59 am

8mm Pelang, 6 images (1 shot per 60 degrees)180_8mmpelang_6images.jpg

10-20mm Sigma, 7 images (1 shot per 45 degrees)

180_1020mm45_tiny.jpg

Gotten the 8mm Pelang again to try out as the previous attempt was not possible due to a sprained back I had from work. Not as good as I wanted it to be and seems to have more work than I expected. I’ve read on many sites about this popular lens for 360 panos (along with the 10.5mm Nikkor) but I give up after a few hours of tries. Sticking to my 10-20mm Sigma that has serve me very well without the fisheye effect to worry about. Yes, we can defish it with software but the workflow will take up more time. Above, you’ll see the comparison, comparing 10-20mm and the 8mm Pelang taking a 180 Pano of my room. Sorry, it’s not a 360 x 360 Pano.

So what’s good about using a 8mm Pelang to take a pano? Well, “people” actually. Those of you who has seen a few of my panos will know that at times, there the “ghosting” effect of people walking from left to right in a pano and as there’s no way to tell them to stop walking since it’s a public place, it’ll be good if a 8mm is used as you need fewer shots eliminating the need rush to take the pano shots as the passer by won’t be able to walk into your frame yet after taking a shot. Some has taken successfully panos with the 8mm with as little as 4 shots (4 images, 90 degrees per shot) thus, it effectively froze the scene with the right shutter and aperture/ ISO settings! That’s really cool, not to mention a lot lesser work in Photoshop and PTGui later.

I’ve termed some Pano 180 when it is actually a 360 x 0 degrees shot where a full 360 pano is actually 360 degrees x 360 degrees allowing you to spin in any direction to see “what’s there”. With a 360 x 0 degrees pano, you can only go left and right and thus, it simpler to just name them 180 Panos, as in 360 divde by 2. Yes, it ain’t right strictly speaking and I do know of that. Anyways, enjoy all the panos here!

News section added.

etegration | August 1, 2007 | 9:12 pm

I’ve added a news section to post pano related news. All other tech news or article (yes i know it’s been a long while since i wrote anything but well…) will still be at www.itcow.com

PTGui

First off, there’s a new version of PTGui (Version 7.2) . It nows support HDR “out of the box“! oh and no, my recent HDR based360 panos are not made using it. The HDR in my panos are processed using Photomatix then stitched using the usual (older) PTGui version.

3D Map

Interesting find of Google related maps. As you know, I use a map to map out all the panos I have taken around Singapore and Google Map and Google Earth always interest me a lot. Seeing this in 3D is darn interesting. It’s a map of London’s tube. Check it out here.

Anyone care to map out Singapore’s MRT?

Panos around the world

Lastly, check out the “Best of 2006″ right here. There’s also the recently mentioned location, the so called New 7 Wonders of the World.

Enjoy!

ITCoW - In The Course of Work is a website I maintained at http://www.itcow.com and contains some technical and IT stuffs and writeup. Check it out. ITCoW 360, this site, is a sub site used to maintain all panoramas shots.

Most of the 360 Pano are in DevalVR, although you can view them with just Quicktime installed, they will not be in fullscreen mode. Install the DevalVR plugin, it's just but a few seconds to download and install. Alternatively, there's at times, Flash version of the panos I release. Click on the respective icon to download the plugins.
