This was once the tallest point in the Bugis area where the New 7 Storey Hotel overlooked the roofs of shop houses that were no more than 3 or 4 storeys tall. Some of these shorter building can still be seen along Liang Seah Street and Purvis Street a stone throw walk away from the Hotel.
