M1 offers free WLAN to all.

12/02/2003

M1 is offering FREE
wireless Internet access at a few locations, I am just wondering how to surf @
Safe Superstore, Jurong Point, sit in the corridor with my laptop? haha Anyway,
it’s a limited time (what you think then?!) offer and last till 31 March 2003,
well, cheap way of getting "testers" for their WLAN I guess. You don’t have to
be a existing M1 customer to surf on.

See

M1’s page
on this offer!

I hope to see Singapore covered with WLAN all around and access to all of
them free! If newspaper can be free, I don’t see why public Internet access
needs to pay, surely they can do something like offset the prices with
advertising, like forcing those ads into our throats kinda advertisements. We
live around ads, no way to do without them anyway.

Now, let’s "walk on some sunhine" freely but "for a limited time"….

    damn them! i
just came back from work and drop by Safe Superstore @ Jurong Point, WLAN my
    balls! no connection at all!

if you saw this guy walking around with a folded Dell Inspiron Laptop hahaha
that is me. Cannot find any connection. Tried all the instructions found on
their web that i copy and paste into Word just in case…

Fire up your WLAN card when you are at a SunSurf hotspot.
Configure the WLAN SSID / Network Name for the card to “M1 SunSurf”
(or “BECIMO” for our partner hotspot).
Launch Internet Explorer. Then follow the on-screen instructions to log on. Key
in an Internet address to start surfing.
When you’ve finished your internet session, just type “logout.” at the URL bar
    to disconnect.

I tried at the entrance, around the TV section, camcorder section, game arcade
section, all no connection! Was asked by the security guard what the hell am i
doing, i just say checking Internet connection hahaha

Tell him, he also won’t know anyway i guess.

I think M1 should have put up some sign or something saying “You are in M1
hotspot” with maybe a small A4 size instruction on how to connect to their WLAN.

Well, waste my time and malu liaoz

slot my laptop back into my bag without shutting down and took bus home.

Anyone else tried at other location? was thinking of going to Bishan Junction 8
to try but then again, where the hell will the WLAN routers/ AP be in the first
place i thought so, perish the thought liaoz…
